Choosing your RSVP Cards

RSVP Cards are normally sent inside the Wedding Invitations rather than separately, with a reply-by date three to four weeks before the wedding — or earlier where the caterer needs final numbers sooner. A stamped, addressed card is common, and tends to lift the reply rate noticeably. Where a caterer requires meal choices in advance, those are usually printed on the card itself. The same paper and design as the invitation is the norm, so the two arrive as a set.

Common questions.

When should the RSVP date be set?+
Three to four weeks before the wedding is usual, which leaves time to chase late replies before final numbers are due. Caterers sometimes need numbers six weeks out, so the reply-by date is normally set backwards from whatever the venue requires.
Do RSVP cards need a stamp?+
Including a stamped, addressed card is common and tends to lift the reply rate, because it removes the two things most likely to delay a guest. Some couples print a return address on the card instead and leave postage to the guest.
Should meal choices go on the RSVP card?+
Where the caterer needs choices in advance, yes — a tick box per guest is the usual approach, with space to note allergies or dietary requirements. Where the meal is served without choice, the card only needs the acceptance and the names.
How many RSVP cards do we need?+
One per invitation rather than one per guest, since invitations are addressed by household. A handful of spares is normal, for cards that go astray in the post or arrive back illegible.
Can guests RSVP online instead?+
Many couples offer both, with a wedding website address printed on the card. Older guests tend to use the card and younger ones the website, and offering both usually produces a faster complete set of replies than either alone.
What size are wedding RSVP cards?+
They are normally smaller than the invitation so they sit inside it, and small enough to post back cheaply. The size is usually chosen to match the envelope being used for the reply.
