Choosing your Party Invitations

Party invitations are usually sent three to four weeks ahead, or longer over Christmas and in summer when diaries fill early. Quantities are counted by household rather than by guest for most adult events. What goes on the card depends on the occasion, but a start time, an end time where the venue requires one, and a reply-by date cover most of what guests need. Dress code is worth including where the event calls for one, since it is the question hosts field most often.

Common questions.

How far ahead should party invitations be sent?+
Three to four weeks suits most parties. Six weeks or more is sensible in December and over the summer, when diaries fill early and guests are likely to have competing plans.
What information should a party invitation include?+
The occasion, host, date, start time and venue address. An end time is useful where the venue has one, and a reply-by date makes catering numbers far easier. Dress code is worth stating where there is one.
How many party invitations should we order?+
Count households rather than individuals for an adult party, as couples normally receive one card between them. A few spares are usual, since guest lists tend to grow once word gets round.
Should party invitations include a dress code?+
Where there is one, yes. It is the question hosts are asked most often, and putting it on the card saves repeating the answer. A single short line at the foot of the invitation is the usual approach.
Do party invitations need an RSVP?+
Where numbers affect catering or a venue minimum, a reply-by date is worth including. A phone number or email address on the card is enough for most parties; a separate reply card is generally reserved for weddings.
Can party invitations be printed for any occasion?+
Yes. Anniversaries, retirements, housewarmings, leaving parties and any other gathering can be printed from your own design or one created in the Design Studio.
